Work, rest and play

Work, rest and play – A little about me – Jackie Key

Let me start by saying that this is rather weird but a business colleague that I trust suggested that it was a good idea to write a short blog about me! As you can imagine I was a little surprised but as she pointed out – in the end – when it comes down to it, people buy from people. So here goes…

For a sort of structure I’ve taken the old Mars advert strapline of work, rest and play. I am a sucker for advertising!

So work!
I’ll be honest; I am one of those rather annoying people that actually really, really enjoys work. I have a real passion for business and marketing. I love helping businesses to grow by using marketing in all of its variations. With well over 20 years’ experience in marketing, I was actually working in the industry before the internet started to have an impact on business. That hasn’t stopped me from jumping straight in as soon as it started to take off. From email marketing to launch a new organisation back in 2003, to a first website project in 2004 and the first Google Adwords campaign in 2005*, I’ve seen how the internet has made a real difference to how we market a business today compared to when I started out doing as a graduate back in 1988! I’m forever learning which is great. And Google with their continual updates certainly keeps us all on our toes.

Rest
Sleep, maybe read a book (science fiction is my preference and I’d recommend WOOL by Hugh Howey) and taking Rosie, our ginger Labrador for a walk or two.

Play
My first degree was Sports Science and Administration at Trent Polytechnic so I love playing sport – hockey in particular for Southwell Brincliffe United, running and going to the gym.

Also I love being by the seaside but living in Nottingham makes that a little tricky – fortunately I’m from Cornwall and all the family are still there so we get to go when we can!

Oh and finally, I’m also very lucky to be with a truly wonderful partner and to have an amazing, lovely daughter.

Enough about me… now shall I eat that Mars bar or pop to the gym?
