After a lot of careful research and consideration, the team at Key Principles are incredibly proud to announce our support for cancer support charity, Maggie’s.
Specifically, we will be taking part in a range of events and challenges to help in fundraising for their Nottingham-based centre, next door to Nottingham City Hospital.

About Maggie’s Nottingham
Being diagnosed with cancer can be a frightening time, with many people not only battling with their physical health but also often feeling depressed, anxious and nervous. With worries surrounding their finances, family and their plans for the future, Maggie’s centres offer support that reaches beyond clinical help, allowing their visitors access to practical and emotional support, enabling them to take control of their diagnosis.
Founded in 1996 by Maggie Keswick Jencks, Maggie’s offers a new kind of cancer care. Hospitals can be scary, cold and clinical feeling places, with most people dreading their visit. Maggie’s centres recognise that people need more than just medical treatment, providing a calming and supporting place to escape from the clinical environment. Maggie’s centres large open spaces, one-to-one and group support provide a welcoming atmosphere; aligned with an inspirational team of highly trained psychiatrists, benefits advisors and cancer support specialists.
What we’re doing to help
Over the coming months the team at Key Principles will be taking on a range of challenges, starting with their popular ‘Maggie’s to Maggie’s’ campaign. This is where fundraisers aim to complete the distance between two Maggie’s centres.
Starting on 31st October, the four of us will have until 31st December to complete the distance between Maggie’s Nottingham and Maggie’s in Highlands, Scotland. This equates to 432 miles, which we’ll aim to complete through various walks, runs or cycles between us. We’re hoping to raise £500 in donations, with 100% of donations going directly to the charity.
If we were to raise £500, this could pay for over 30 people to visit the centre and receive a consultation with a Cancer Support Specialist, providing them not only with emotional support but also access to practical advice on their finances, treatment, family and mental health.
Key Principles Managing Director, Jackie Key commented:
“I am incredibly proud of the team and their enthusiasm to support Maggie’s. Whilst we have quite a challenge ahead of us, I am confident that we will achieve excellent results for such a worthwhile cause. We hope that we’ll not only raise funds for the charity, but also awareness of the remarkable work they do.”
We’d really appreciate any form of support, whether it’s through donations on our JustGiving page or even by spreading the word through liking and sharing our fundraiser updates on social media. Ultimately any support is greatly appreciated for such a remarkable charity!
How your donations help
A couple of pounds can help to pay for coffee and a cake whilst Maggie’s professionals offer advice and support to visitors living with cancer.
- £7 could pay for someone’s first chat with a Cancer Support Specialist.
- £15 could help pay for someone to get one-to-one help with money worries.
- £30 could help pay for a session with a psychologist to reduce someone’s anxiety.
Together, we can help Maggie’s to fund the following:
- £38 means an individual, couple or family can have a one-hour support session with a psychologist, helping them address a complex range of issues.
- £150 pays for one day of money advice to support people to claim the grants and benefits they are entitled to.
- £282 provides cancer support sessions for up to 20 people to help them understand their diagnosis, treatment and life with cancer.

Our search for the right cause
In our most recent quarterly meeting, we started brainstorming ideas on how we could support great causes and contribute towards society in new ways. Alongside starting our journey to becoming carbon-neutral with help from Ecologi, we also wanted to support a social cause that affects a large proportion of the population.
Although a virtual digital marketing agency, most of the team are based in and around Nottingham so we wanted to support a cause that worked locally and helped local people. With over 375,000 new cancer cases in the UK each year, we learnt about the charities that provide respite and support for those living with cancer and their families. Maggie’s stood out as an excellent charity to support, working out of a specialist centre attached to Nottingham’s City Hospital.
Thank you for your support.
